Prepare your new home for spring and summer

Mon, 19 Mar 2012 by Polycorp

You’re probably ready to hang up your boots and winter coat for the season and bring out your golf clubs, fishing poles and bicycles. Your wait is almost over as spring and summer draw near. As you anxiously anticipate the warmer seasons there are some changes that need to be made to your home. Polycorp, the Halifax new home builder suggests these tips for you to effectively get your home ready for the spring and summer months.

Over these past few months your home has definitely gone through some wear and tear from the frigid temperatures, rain and snow. Clean out your gutters and replace any missing or broken shingles on your roof.  Inspect the caulking around your windows and doors and replace that if necessary as well. Open up your windows to check for any damage to weather stripping that has taken place.  Now’s a good time to check the exterior dryer vent and clean the filter on your HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilation) system.

Just as much as the exterior of your home needs attention, so does the interior. Pack up any items that you won’t need during the summer months and store them appropriately. Clean and repair or replace any broken door and window screens to fully enjoy the spring and summer breezes at your Ravenscraig home, by the Halifax new home builder, Polycorp. Clean your interior windows and ceiling fans.  In the summer, use the ceiling fan in the counterclockwise direction. While standing directly under the ceiling fan you should feel a cool breeze. The airflow produced creates a wind-chill effect, making you "feel" cooler. (In the winter, reverse the motor and operate the ceiling fan at low speed in the clockwise direction. This produces a gentle updraft, which forces warm air near the ceiling down into the occupied space).

Tidy up your guest rooms to prepare for summer visitors. Changing your linens, curtains and adding artwork can give a room a welcoming feeling for any visitors to enjoy.

Examine your propane tank to make sure it’s full and ready to go. Look to see that you have all the right grilling essentials needed for your first barbecue of the season.  There’s nothing worse than being all set to do something and not having what you need to do it!

Hopefully with these tips from the reputable Halifax new home builder your home will be set for you and your family to enjoy the spring and summer months.
