Maximize your storage space at your new home

Mon, 30 Apr 2012 by Polycorp

You’ve probably said to yourself, “There’s just not enough space for all of my things.” Even though you may have a large mechanical/storage room, you may feel you still don’t have enough storage space.  You’ll have to find simple and creative ways to maximize the storage space in your new homes in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Here are some tips from Polycorp for creating that space.

De-clutter

Take stock of your belongings and get rid of anything you no longer want, need or use.  Anything that you haven’t used for the past year may be a candidate for tossing.  Call your local thrift store to come and pick up unwanted items – you’ll be helping someone else while opening up space in your home where you’ll be able to organize whatever you’ve decided to keep.

Ready-made shelves

These can be put up in almost any room and used to store your books, office items, home décor, laundry detergents and other items.  There is a wide assortment of open and closed shelving available to suit your needs.

Closet Space Organizers

Shoe organizers, tie racks, sweater organizers and pant organizers can maximize your closet space. Space bags are great for storing out of season clothing.

Loft or Bunk beds

Bunk beds or loft beds with storage underneath can free up much-needed floor space that can be used to store toys, or to tuck a dresser, desk, bookcase or even a small sofa.

Floor-to-ceiling storage

Floor-to-ceiling bookcases and shelving units give you added storage space without taking up too much room.

Plastic containers

Plastic containers are perfect for storing everything including clothes, holiday decorations, office supplies or anything else you can imagine while keeping them protected.  Clear plastic storage containers (as opposed to coloured ones) are ideal so you can see what’s inside. Labeling your containers is also recommended.  They can be slid out of the way under beds or other furniture, and if they’re on wheels they can easily be pulled out when needed.

Dual-purpose furniture

Coffee table ottomans, storage benches, TV wall units with shelving, pullout couches and end tables with drawers are perfect furniture pieces for your new homes in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and they can also be used to help keep clutter at bay.
