Tips for Choosing the Right Floorplan for you

Thu, 19 Jan 2012 by Polycorp

Choosing the right floorplan is exciting but there are many factors to consider when purchasing your new home. Below are five tips to help you decide which floorplan suits your needs.

1.     Growth – Plan for space to evolve. Select a floorplan that’ll accommodate more children, your parents or in-laws moving in, your children returning home after college or transforming one room into another.

2.     Lifestyle – Whether your family enjoys entertaining, cooking, relaxing, having sleepovers or spending time outdoors, it’s important to select a floorplan ideal for your lifestyle needs. Consider the different ways you’d utilize your space, if you’d prefer a casual dining room versus a formal one or if you’d like to add something such as a second fireplace on the lower level to keep your new home in Halifax cozy during cold winters, or an outdoor kitchen to maximize your outdoor time in summer.

3.     Privacy – Privacy is essential to any homeowner. Parents with younger children may want their master suite located near the kid’s room. The Glasgow floorplan, with the bedroom on the first floor, is perfect for parents who want distance from their older childrens’ bedrooms.  A separate bathroom for your guests to use is probably ideal as well.

4.     Furniture – Visualize yourself living in your new home in Halifax. Know the dimensions of each room and map out how your furniture will fit into your home. Make sure the floorplan you choose fits all of your home décor including new furniture, curtains, paintings or plants.

5.     Accessibility – Do you prefer the garage near the kitchen to bring in groceries, extra space for your kids to run around or do you have a family member with mobility challenges who needs accessibility and single level living or more room to maneuver? Opt for a floorplan that suits your family’s functionality needs.
