Creative Eco Friendly Holiday Decor Ideas for your Halifax New Home

Thu, 21 Nov 2013 by Polycorp

You don’t have to spend a lot of money when it comes to decorating your home for the holidays. In fact, there are plenty of inexpensive ways to make your new home in Halifax festive. Consider these creative and eco-friendly holiday ideas to decorate your home this season.

Got plastic?

Don’t know what to do with all the plastic bags used to pack items during your move?  The clear or white plastic grocery bags are ideal for creating holiday wreaths. If a traditional wreath is more your style, opt for green bags or go with wine corks for a more creative option. Your DIY wreaths will look perfect on your fireplace mantel, front door or garage door.

Edible Décor

Garland is great for accenting your holiday décor and will look festive adorned on your Christmas tree, stairway, doorways or garage. Give traditional garland a twist by stringing cranberries and popcorn together to place on your tree.

Unconventional wrapping paper

Don’t purchase giftwrap. Instead, go through what you have from your move to make festive wrapping paper. Wrap presents in newspaper, paper bags, tissue paper, scrap paper or even construction paper while accessorizing the wrapping with buttons, ribbons or stickers.

LED lights

We do suggest purchasing LED holiday lights, however. They consume less power compared to traditional bulbs, help lower your electric bill and will brighten up the inside and outside of your new home.

Old CDs

Recycle old CDs by cutting them into cool shapes to create Christmas ornaments. This will look awesome hanging from your Christmas tree and reflecting your lights. Or create a personalized ornament by adorning the disc with a photo, snowmen and holiday patterns.

Inspired by nature

If hosting company at your Halifax new home, dress your bed in natural fibers like organic cotton or silk for your comforters, duvets, sheets and quilts.  Fill outdoor pots with tree boughs and pine cones, wrap the pot with a festive ribbon and your front entry will look inviting and festive throughout the holidays.

As you can see, your tree doesn’t have to be the only thing green in your new home this holiday season. We hope these festive, inexpensive eco-friendly ideas have given you plenty of inspiration to decorate for the holidays. Take a tour of your Ravenscraig neighborhood for more ideas and make new friends in the process. Have a joyous holiday season!
